Reality. It’s not an opinion.

07/11/2011 // 11:23 am // 92 Comments // , President & CEO

Our world is changing. Rivers are overflowing their boundaries. Carefully tended crops have failed due to drought and severe storms. Forests are turning into tinder.  Massive glaciers are melting at an alarming rate.

We have known about climate change for decades. Yet now, we are seeing and experiencing the extreme weather that scientists have long told us to expect in a warming world. Floods. Heat waves. Droughts. Historic storms. These cataclysmic events are occurring all over the world with increasing frequency. This is not normal. A “new normal” is emerging. And these events will only become more frequent and severe if we continue to pollute our air.

Despite the overwhelming number of severe weather events occurring all over the globe, this new reality is too often denied or ignored. The public receives confusing messages from the media about climate change and how we can solve it. Much as tobacco companies once brazenly denied that smoking causes cancer, powerful fossil fuel interests are creating their own, self-serving “reality” by claiming the burning of oil and coal is not changing our climate.

Many of those who are most affected by our changing climate already understand this reality. And there are groups and individuals emerging around the globe who are stepping up to the challenge and opportunity that climate change presents. Military leaders, people of faith, the mayors of some of the world’s major cities, and even some leading corporations are all taking important steps to confront the climate crisis. But the voices of denial and confusion will not give up without a fight.

A global movement is building to take action to solve this crisis. We need to bring reality into the conversation. That is why we are launching The Climate Reality Project.

We are starting this campaign without any illusions about the difficulties ahead. For years, despite calls to action by millions of committed citizens around the world, many of our leaders have stubbornly refused to confront this crisis. But we have one critical advantage: Reality. There is no hiding the fact that the ten hottest years on record have all occurred since 1998. It is a fact that severe droughts threaten the livelihoods of millions; that 100-year floods and 1000-year floods are occurring around the world year after year; that island nations are going underwater; that rising seas are already washing away beaches and impacting entire communities.

These facts must be heard. It’s time to connect the dots.

On Sept. 14, we will host a global gathering to create 24 Hours of Reality — an event that will focus the world’s attention on the full truth, scope , scale and impact of the climate crisis. 24 Hours of Reality will remove the doubt, reveal the deniers and catalyze urgency and commitment. This event will be streamed live online and will take place over 24 hours in 24 time zones around the globe. Citizen activists from The Climate Reality Project will broadcast a new multimedia presentation from our Chairman, Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore. I invite you to learn more about the event here.

The reality of climate change can seem overwhelming. But facing this new reality is empowering — we already know how to solve the climate crisis. By making a transition away from oil and coal and using the renewable energy technology that is available now, we will reduce the pollution that is warming our climate.

I look forward to working with you and all our allies and supporters as we launch The Climate Reality Project.

Per the drought/flooding issue- I have provided the answer years ago- collect all fresh water including rain run off, filter it and pipe it or channel it back using existing line grid.

Consider the ocean like a beachball- when you add water to it the agitation pushes the teutonic plates. Places like Jamestown Jamaica were thriveing and now underwater. With expected 28+ feet in 100 years due to erosion as well as climate change alot of effort needs to go towards coastal areas and ports. Islands stand in peril.

Effort needs to be made in reclaiming resources- we are creating love canals of the future in our wasteful practices- 95%+ of all waste is recyclable- and when you add chemical, thermal, and harmonic engineering all waste can be processed.

Through Vistuchi and Tesla principals expanded you will find a way to produce more energy. Harmonics are an important factor in these things as all atomic activity runs on frequency.

    Greetings,

I’m all in with supporting this ultra important initiative. We have been for a few years now. We have solar panels, we compost, I don’t use gas powered lawn equipment, I don’t use pesticides, we only buy organic.

But I have some healthy skepticism of this group — even though I’m a member.

    1. You only offer Facebook as a way to RSVP.

Believe it or not, there’s people who don’t want to be on Facebook. What about those of us, albeit probably only a few, who don’t want to be on Facebook? What choice do we have to RSVP?

    2. A big complaint that the right has, and it’s legit, is that the movers and shakers don’t walk the walk.

Al Gore, with his giant houses, staff, private planes and what not, has the carbon footprint the size of a small country. Does Al have solar panels? Does he compost? We always see videos of Al on the bully pulpit, but we never see any videos of him composting. Why not? Same with Maggie Fox. Is she walking the walk? Or this just another line for her resume, a lead into some high paying gig down the line? The people behind this, whoever they are, need to show people they’re walking the walk. I’ll be happy to put up vids of us composting, using our battery operated mower and taking a delivery from Door To Door Organics. Can you do the same? If not, then why should anyone believe you? Remember. A lot of people have been burned by the financial crisis. Now all the sudden they’re just supposed to forget all that and trust you?

    3. Donations.
I’m happy to make donations — if I know where my money is going. In fact, I’d like to know where every penny is going. I’m in programming. With all the cash and brains you have here, you ought to be able to whip up a webpage where all the world can see there the money is going. If some of the money I give is going to gas for Al’s jet, or Maggie’s for that matter, no way. Show people where the money is going in real-time and you’ll get more money than you ever would have imagined. Until then, you’ll only get money from your rich friends.

    4. This movement needs to be appealing to the average Joe. Right now, it’s only appealing to those with a few bucks.

You need to show how everyone can take part of this movement, not just those who can afford solar panels or take time off to watch your event. More effort should be spent showing people the little things they can be doing each day. Appeal to the masses, not the classes.

Thanks, I hope this gets posted. Like I say, I’m behind this.

The opening comment should say big oil and gas and
big coal. Not just big oil and big coal. If we are to reduce co2 e of 80% below 1990 levels by 2050 we must not use natural gas either.
The video at the end cites “fossel fuels” it should begin with all fossel fuels as well.
We don’t have the time or the money to invest in gas :resources that must be used for solar conversion !

The native peoples of the world have tried to warn humanity about what happens when you live against nature instead of with it. The Hopi warnings are spot on with the disasters that happen when you do not take care of the earth. But greed seems to be more important to too many people. Also I meet too many people who have no clue how nature works and just don’t care. Hope humanity wakes up soon before it is too late.

Fellow Humans: The world is large, but we have found many ways of reducing it’s capability to support our civilization. Adding billions of tons of carbon each year to our atmosphere drives increased heating by our Sun, leading to significant negative impacts on our physical, social, and ecological environments. Denial of this human impact on Earth isn’t a refuge from reality. If we can’t reduce and quickly stop our carbon emissions, we are condemning all future life to existence on an increasingly damaged and greatly changed planet.

Political rhetoric has taken up too much precious time and created an “uneducated”electorate which now sees the issue of climate change as a either a hoax of the so- called “opposition” or the wrath of a vengeful God. We are all inhabitants of this planet and regardless of our socioeconomic status, ethnicity or political or religious beliefs, deserve a life of quality and sustainability. To ignore this issue any longer diminishes our right to a future for ourselves, our children and our nation.

I just finished reading the excellent book “Climate Capitalism” by L. Hunter Lovins and Boyd Cohen. Its theme has to be spread to many more private companies, individuals, then eventually to government.
Basically, whether or not you believe in climate change, if you adopt many of the sustainability examples described in this book and backed up by hundreds of concrete examples worldwide, you will earn much higher profits. This leads to more jobs and a much better economy and society, and it will save the planet.
Several of the positive sustainable practices illustrated here include: (1) energy efficiency, (2) renewable energy, (3) green buildings and neighborhoods, (4) better, more efficient transportation, (5) a world without oil, (7) sustainable agriculture — both on the farm and in cities, (8) carbon markets, (9) adopting to climate chaos, and (10) a future that works.
A much more detailed summary of this excellent book is avaliable on the URL above.
We need to inform conservative financiers and Republicans of this win/win/win approach where we can (1) earn much higher profits, (2) create many more jobs building valuable capital, and (3) save the world from climate change!

ALL of humanity needs to either wake up and become enlightened together or dream the same dream together, our ages old and common dream of living in PEACE among all peoples and in HARMONY with NATURE.
We need to build a global network of “sustainable” communities — socially responsible, equitable, just, and ecologically harmonious — designed, built, maintained, and dedicated to develop an ECOLOGICAL ECONOMY and restore the biological, psychological, social, and cultural integrity of humanity and Planet Earth’s fertility, biodiversity, and ecological balance and harmony. We need to restore the COMMUNITY OF LIFE ON EARTH.

I’d like to see an experiment on Mythbusters. The guys have access to a very large warehouse. I’d like to see them take the temperature inside the warehouse on a cool night, one where the outside temperature is going down. The warehouse should not be heated.

Then bring in one car, maybe a Model T Ford, and start it running and take the temperature again. Then bring in a Model A Ford (OK I like old Fords), and start it running (this should probably be done by remote control so the guys won’t be asphyxiated).

They gradually fill up the warehouse with cars and generators and coal barbecues (pseudo power plants), and see if the temperature inside goes up. Wanna bet it will. Ask the question, where would the heat go? It doesn’t. It’s captive inside the Earth’s atmosphere. It’s everywhere.

Then they turn all the cars off. How long would it take for the temperature to drop if the building is sealed. I don’t know but probably hours maybe days.

Would that convince doubters that running enough carbon powered engines in a closed environment causes heat buildup? Do ya think?

Snow in Atlanta. Tons of snow in New York City. Obviously that disproves Global Warming, right? Well any third grader can explain this by describing the water cycle.

The ocean is full of water. The sun evaporates the water which rises as vapor and gathers into clouds. The clouds are pushed by the wind until they are too heavy and the rain (or snow if the air temperature is below 38 degrees) starts to fall. Simple, huh.

If the sun is hotter, move water would be evaporated and clouds would be heavier and drop more precipitation. But even that doesn’t go far enough. The quantity of water on Earth has been fix for millions of years. The form of it changes. So sometimes there is more ice and other times there is more liquid water.

Right now the ice is melting. Even Greenland is turning green. This is increasing the amount of liquid water in the ocean. More liquid water with increased evaporation of the surface water means more precipitation. Any third grader should be able to present this to the doubting public.

How can we have strengh, if in Spain, a country belonging to EU, a corrupted justice is allowed? There´s a general fear from the citizens to denounce all the enviromental crimes, and all sorts of frauds, as most of the people/companies that do them, have enough money, hidden in black in Spain or in economic paradises, so they can buy the judges. The enviromental, economical criminals dont have fear from judges, and the judges don´t have fear from the people, becausethey would not have to face an independent peoples jury to judge them this is one of the reasons that few get denounced, because citizens fear, as denouncers would be attacked back, as the witness/corruption denouncers would not be protected. Yes I want to do something to help stop the insanity towars our planet. But we need help to develop an international organizacion to protect the citizens from corruption, so we can help the earth from corruption too. If we have real Justice, we could denounce politicians that are not complying with the promises of renewable energies. I want to buy an electric car, but they are not yet available in the area where I live and ithe ones they are supose to come soon would cost 40% more than in the rest of Europe. The same with the installation of solar panels. I ask for help from Algore as an experience politician.

The Truth of Earth’s Disastrous Climate Change
    From Sensible Common Man’s Perspective
By John Paily – Grace New Age Research

Let us observe nature to understand climate and the disastrous end to which we are leading ourselves from a point of freedom and new perspective.
Earth’s climate is determined by two opposing forces that gives way to one another in cyclic form. The forces are
1] Sun’s force, that unwinds, energizes and creates disorder
2] Earth Force, that winds, de-energizes and creates new order
Our earth is divided into two parts west and east, when west is in disordering cycle the east is simultaneously in ordering cycle and vice versa. They coexist and give way to one another balancing the whole system. This manifests into day and night and climatic cycles. This design and working helps the system maintain its temperature. This change over takes place over specific period of time and involves energy changes.
By virtue of second law of thermodynamics, there is a time direction that is either directed to disorder or towards order. If the system has to survive it should be able change phase when this peaks. We probably are in that phase where the system is in transition from one time cycle to another.
The above cycle and its time direction have opposing relationship with life. Plants absorb light and heat and thus work against the disorder. When night fall the system converts light and heat absorbed into organic matter that grows against gravity. Thus, living system works against gravitational collapse of material matter in time. This is a proven fact. The second law of thermodynamic applied to material and living system shows this opposition. The time in plant system is directed to anti-gravitational collapse. The existence herbivore control plants and carnivore control herbivore and thus the whole system are self sustaining or Gaia with out any time direction. The earth with plant life is two dimensional. Earth with plants and animals is three dimensional and self sustaining. Plants and animals live by their instinct and do nothing to disturb the time cycle of earth.
The time direction or fourth dimensions to nature comes from adult human mind that becomes self centered and comes to live by his mind. In doing so he breaks the communication with his inner consciousness and intelligence. He becomes slave to material force. Thus human beings get aligned with gravity and take the world to gravitational collapse. He breaks the time cycle and intervenes into the functioning of earth to sustain herself.
By our reckless exploitation of the fossil fuels, industrialization and our intervention into the night cycle, we are hastening the time and have been pushing earth unilaterally to its critical limit by disrupting the energy cycle. The earth as a last resort has been responding by unwinding.
We know that the transition of day into night and vice-versa is a slow process, involving 8 units of 3 each forming 24 quantum units called hour cycle. Each of these hours in turn consists of 60 quantum unit minute cycle, which in turn contains 60 second units. What this means earth needs minimum grind points for the cycle of day and night and climatic cycle to smoothly manifest. When earth begins to unwind to sustain herself, the grid points decreases. As it approaches the criticality it becomes highly unstable.
The consequence is peaking and falling of two basic opposing forces; the unwinding force of sun and winding forces of earth. This is leading to observed huge disasters the world is witnessing through forest fire, flash flood, cyclones, tornadoes, earth quakes, volcanic eruptions. The number of hectares of forest land lost in the past 10 years is alarming. The abrupt winding of earth leads to huge earth quakes and eventually it ends in huge volcanic eruptions. The increasing heat in the environment and abrupt changes is rendering the ecosystem system unstable and threatening to wipe out species. Instability of human mind at individual and collective levels manifesting into war, terrorism, uprising all could be related to this. The very existence of humanity is in danger; if he does not become conscious and intelligent and awaken to truth to bring justice and truth to the world. Noble Laureate James Lovelock in his book “Vanishing Face of Gaia –The Final Warning” has clearly spoken about large scale destruction of humanity.
A hope however exists for humanity in Knowing God and His Mind. From the point of spirituality it is matter of awakening to consciousness and inner intelligence or knowledge that gives life and order. We are in the phase of entering the Golden Age. When God forbid Adam to eat from the tree at the center, He was actually forbidding humanity from becoming slave to material world and creating a time direction to death. But Bible speaks of conquering time and death and salvation through Christ. Awakening to Christ consciousness and knowing the Mind of God thus becomes vital to Human survival on earth. Bible says “Seek Truth and Truth will set you free”
Science has made nature complex and beyond the comprehension of common man. It actually is lost in complexity, not able to comprehend the simplicity behind the complexity. Thus truth has gone farther and farther from we and we live in illusionary world. The only way to survive is to evolve to know the simple truth that exist next our skin. We need to develop a new thinking and transform into a new foundation. Einstein the great thinker said “Humanity is going to need a substantial new way of thinking, if it is survive”. Stephen Hawking concluded his book “Brief History of Time” saying that next advancement in science should be simple, such that all people should be able participate in the discussion of nature and life not few scientists.
Our survival exists in awakening to take measure to sustain the balance of nature and help her recover. It exists in developing new technologies that are life centered and nature compatible.
For step by step logical arguments and picture about how this universe is created and functions through information [consciousness] unfolding and enfolding, your can read a small book – “Information and Black Hole– The Truth of Origin and Universal Existence in Time” It exist in my site under the following address https://sites.google.com/site/2012sciencemeetsgod/information-black-hole-and-truth

Is it possible that these machines will actually alter weather due to slowing the wind speed? They take energy from the wind and convert to electricity…wind loses energy by slowing down….STAGNANT air!

So after 20 years of successful books, movies and a Nobel Prize you admit that you have not gotten the truth out on climate? By the way, claiming that the extreme weather of the past through years is historically unusual is not what informed people would call “the complete truth”. In fact well informed people would call that claim a “lie”.

It’s time to take on the deniers and face the truth instead of putting our heads in the sand. Oil is over, natural gas could be a viable transition but needs strict regulation. We need to promote solar, wind and geothermal combined by incentives that will provide jobs and boost the economy in the long term.

January-June 2011 brought some strange weather to SE Washington: People started spraying for weeds at the end of February. There seemed to be an unusual amount of wind – daily winds of 20-30mph with occasional 40-50mph gusts. The cool and rainy weather lasted to the end of June. Now there’s rust in the wheat, and people have been commenting that there seems to be fewer wasps and praying mantis than usual, but that there seems to be more birds than usual. By July, the weather is usually hot and dry, but so far this month the temperatures have warmed up (into the the mid-90′s) for only a 2-3 days at a time then cooled back down to the mid-70′s and low 80′s.

The real problem is that we are still trying to use the same arrogant ideals and wisdom of the excepted ideal ology that caused the climate problem to fix the same said problem. The technology in use is not the problem, rather the way we have chosen to use that technology. The technology or science is just the cold hard facts of the many possibilities that can come from it. It is the choices and the reasons we use to obtain the goals we desire, without taking into account all the possibilities, both positive and negative, that can come from the knowledge or use of that technological science that lead to the current life threating consequences.

We have the knowledge and the technology to effect a positive change and reverse the current damage.
We just need to accept the current wisdom and ideal ology is destructive and not constructive. We need to adapt to the natural ecological systems and processes and use technology to enhance not replace those processes.

This may a simplistic answer; however this approach can provide us an unlimited and renewable source of power, not fossil based fuels or with radioactive byproducts, for private and commercial uses within 5 years. Within 10 to 20 years we could achieve a global environmental balanced ecology.

We must turn away from the current practices that are based on the needs of a few and start making choices that meet the needs all. If not the desire and arrogance of the few will destroy us all.

Isn’t climate realism already a sceptical nomenclature ?

  • In order to conform to reality, any climate variation hypotheses must account for climate change as a result of the sun’s fluctuating magnetic field and its effect on cosmic ray concentrations through Earth’s atmosphere and resulting cloud albedo changes; natural coupled atmospheric/oceanic cycles; and geological proxy climate records showing an 800-1,000 year lag between global average surface temperature rise and subsequent increases in atmospheric CO2 and NH4 concentrations.

This is something I have been talking about for a few years now and what I believe has been part of the disconnect with people especially in the U.S. Seeing the effects of climate change/biodistress globally up close and personal. The phrase seeing is believing is certainly true for many. Hopefully this will lead to more and quicker action because from what I am reading about Arctic ice and what we are now seeing taking form on every continent with agrciultural loss, water scarcity, damage to our ocean ecosystems, etc. we don’t have much more time to convince people of this reality. I’m with you all the way.

    This is increadible!
It has ONLY taken three decades for the uninhibited need of the WORLD for pollution reduction, to come into focus for so many, I saw this coming in 1979. I didn’t know that you’d call it Global Warming, but knew that air pollution from GHG’s were going to overtake us. …
However, I haven’t sat on my hands for all that time either, I designed a system to address this very thing.
It scrubs the exhaust gases clean of water soluble GHG’s while it increases the fuel energy efficiency of the motor by 25% which is quite adequite to offset ‘the cost of conversion’.
This does not require more than a minor cost re-fit for most engines as compared to this HUGE reduction in future operating and pollution costs.
YOU NEED THIS, I HAVE IT TO SHARE WITH YOU AND OFFER IT TO ALL OF THE WORLD NOW!
See my website for contact details!
    Cheers,
    Willy.

And again I must say climate change is 89% the reason by the Earth’s crust shifting. Thus balancing the earth throwing it backwards or forward as you would please in the straight up-and-down axis, that eventually will cause a clear around the earth same temperature as before Noah give a few earthquakes here or there will add to it. No professor or any type of cut back on human footprints will stop the earth from shifting
