Sea ice in the Arctic is on the decline. Over the past 30 years, there has been a dramatic decrease in the average thickness and extent of summer sea ice in the Arctic. This destroys habitat for polar bears and other animals that depend on the ice to survive. Sea ice also acts as a protective buffer for coastal Arctic communities. With less sea ice, they are more vulnerable to flooding and erosion caused by powerful waves.
To learn more about the science behind the loss of sea ice, we’re taking an expedition to the Arctic.
