Applications open now to be trained by former Vice President Al Gore and other experts to become a Climate Reality Leader

Melbourne, Australia (April 29, 2014) – Today, The Climate Reality Project opened applications for the 25th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training program, which will take place June 25-27 in Melbourne, Australia. This will be the 4th training on the continent and will be held in partnership with The Australian Conservation Foundation.

Former Vice President and Climate Reality Project Chairman Al Gore will lead the training, alongside world-class climate scientists, political strategists, communication experts, community organisers and activists. These trainers will teach participants about the science of climate change and how to communicate its effects on individuals.

“I am thrilled to return to Australia for another training this June,” said Al Gore, Chairman and Founder of The Climate Reality Project. “We have taken these trainings around the world, and in every community committed leaders are standing up to take action on the climate crisis. Our goal is to provide them with the best possible tools to become even more effective leaders in their schools, businesses, houses of worship, and local and national governments.”

The purpose of this intensive program is to formally train a new group of Climate Reality Leaders, who can become change agents in their own communities. They will emerge from the program as energised and skilled communicators with the knowledge, tools and drive to educate diverse communities on the costs of carbon pollution and what can be done to solve the climate crisis.

“Australia is on the front line when it comes to climate change impacts, yet our national government is unravelling hard-won progress to price pollution and boost renewable energy,” said Australian Conservation Foundation CEO Kelly O’Shanassy.  “In the absence of government leadership on climate change, the people need to lead the way.  ACF is delighted to welcome Al Gore to Australia once again to train a new generation of community leaders to inspire real climate change action.”

The Climate Reality Project has recently held trainings in Istanbul, Chicago and Johannesburg.  Nearly 7,000 Climate Reality Leaders from more than 100 countries have been trained.  Melbourne has been chosen to host this training to address the significant climate impacts already being felt in areas such as public health, emergency response, and disaster relief in Australia and the larger Asia Pacific region.
