Is carbon dioxide all that it’s cracked up to be?

It’s true that plants need carbon to survive, and that many plants grow more quickly when they are exposed to higher concentrations of carbon dioxide. But now we’re pumping billions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere every year — 9.5 billion tons in 2009 alone.
