    CLIMATE REALITY LEADERSHIP CORPS:
    GLOBAL TRAINING

    July 18-26, 2020

Registration closed 11:59pm ET on 6/25

    ABOUT

This July, The Climate Reality Project and former Vice President Al Gore will host their first-ever virtual climate advocacy training.

This free global event comes at an unprecedented moment in history. The COVID-19 emergency has shattered our sense of normalcy and forced us to grapple with the kind of world we want – and need – when this crisis is over. A world where we rapidly transition away from fossil fuels to end the climate crisis, safeguard our health, strengthen our communities’ well-being, and ensure justice for those who have been marginalized in the past.

By working for renewable energy and other practical and inclusive climate solutions, passionate changemakers around the world can help stop global warming and create a healthy, just, and sustainable future for all.

During this moment of physical distancing, we can still join together and raise our voices for change. This July, join us online to make 2020 a turning point. Together, we can build a powerful global movement for change.

    HOW THE TRAINING WORKS

The 44th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training will take place virtually with one-to-two hours of programming each day between July 18-26, 2020.

This virtual training utilizes a unique model, combining the best of online events, online education, and digital engagement.

    • Compelling Content. Participate in live and on-demand sessions on the science and solutions of the climate crisis, and the skills needed to inspire change.
    • Customization. Complete training requirements with the flexibility to design an agenda based on your interests and availability.
    • Community Building. Network with attendees from around the world in similar industries and with shared interests. Build deeper relationships with an assigned small group of participants from your geographic region led by an experienced Climate Reality Leader.

Throughout the training, attendees will apply what they’ve learned by completing acts of leadership that spread awareness, drive action, and support solutions to the climate crisis.

Attendees who complete the training requirements become Climate Reality Leaders, joining a network of more than 21,000 activists in over 150 countries around the world.

This is a visual representation of the training experience. Attendees will work through five modules, each of which build upon each other. Modules can consist of live sessions, on-demand sessions, networking sessions, small group work, and activities to complete individually.

    Q. HOW MUCH DOES A TRAINING COST?

    A. There is no fee to participate in the training.

Instead, attendees are expected to pay their experience forward by completing 10 Acts of Leadership within one year of the training. An Act of Leadership is an action that spreads awareness, drives change, or supports solutions to the climate crisis.

    Q. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GLOBAL TRAINING?

    Q. WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT FOR THE GLOBAL TRAINING?

    A. We estimate that participating in the training requires a minimum of 14 hours. The training platform will remain open for a brief period after the training, so attendees may choose to dedicate additional time to training.

Required programming will be a mix of pre-scheduled live and on-demand sessions, learning exercises, and actions, so attendees should be able to create an agenda that works for their schedules.

While some sessions will be pre-scheduled based on time zone, the training software will allow attendees to build a personalized training agenda. Attendees will need to allocate time outside of required programmed sessions to complete required learning exercises and actions. In addition to required components, the training includes optional sessions, networking opportunities, and resources.

    Q. DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE FOR THE WHOLE TRAINING?

    A. Anyone who is requesting to join the Climate Reality Leadership Corps training must be able to commit to the time necessary to complete all required components of the training within the allotted time period. Required components will be clearly marked, and attendees will be able to track their progress.

Programming is a mixture of live and on-demand sessions and learning exercises. While some sessions will be pre-scheduled based on time zone, content is available at various times in multiple time zones, so attendees will be able to create an agenda that works for their schedule.

    A. The training will be hosted on a web-based platform and will be accessible from any internet-enabled device: computer, tablet, mobile device, etc. Attendees will need access to a device with a working microphone and camera. Q. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ATTENDING A VIRTUAL TRAINING AND ATTENDING AN IN-PERSON TRAINING?

    A. At all Climate Reality Leadership Corps trainings, in-person or virtual, attendees gain the knowledge and tools to shape public opinion, inspire action, and lead the global fight for climate solutions. While the outcome and level of commitment remain the same, in-person and virtual trainings differ in format and content.

Climate Reality Leadership Corps in-person trainings are two-to-three-day immersive events tailored to have a particular focus on local and regional climate impacts and solutions. Attendees come from around the world, but the audience is primarily from the host state, country, or region.

The Climate Reality Leadership Corps Global Training is a series of live and on-demand sessions and learning exercises run throughout an extended week on a web-based platform. The content is global in nature with learning exercises and networking opportunities that will allow attendees to localize their experience to their geographic area.

    Q. WHAT TIME ZONES WILL LIVE SESSIONS TAKE PLACE IN? WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE A SCHEDULING CONFLICT WITH A LIVE SESSION?

    A. Live sessions will run multiple times to allow most attendees to participate in the late afternoon or evening. Attendees will be pre-assigned to live sessions depending on their time zone. Specific timing will be available closer to the event. If an attendee is unable to attend a live session, make-up opportunities may be available upon request, depending on the session.

    Q. HOW CAN I CONNECT WITH FELLOW ATTENDEES AT THE GLOBAL TRAINING?

    A. There will be multiple ways to connect with fellow attendees:

    • Virtual tables. Similar to an in-person training, attendees will be “seated” in pre-assigned small groups, their “virtual table” for the event. Each table group will have a Climate Reality Mentor, a volunteer previously trained by Climate Reality, who will help guide them through the training and facilitate regular conversations.
    • Virtual networking sessions. Attendees will be able to choose small-group networking sessions from a list of far-ranging topics or speed networking sessions.
    • Virtual meet-ups. Attendees will attend virtual meet-up sessions to learn about and connect with Climate Reality branches and chapters in their geographic area.
    • Direct messaging and discussion forums. Attendees will be able to search for each other and communicate on the training platform as well as through Reality Hub, Climate Reality’s online community specifically for Climate Reality Leaders.

    EXPECTATIONS FOR PARTICIPATION

    Q. WHAT ARE THE ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS AND HOW WILL THEY BE MONITORED?

    A. In order to complete the virtual training, attendees must complete all required components: 1) Attending all live prescheduled sessions and tablework meetings; 2) Attending a designated number of on-demand breakout sessions and networking opportunities; and, 3) Completing required learning exercises and actions.

Required components will be clearly marked in the training platform, so attendees can track their progress. Climate Reality staff may also be able to access these records. Mentors, volunteers previously trained by Climate Reality, will help participants keep tabs on their progress, offering encouragement and assistance along the way.

    Q. WHAT ARE THE 10 “ACTIVITIES” THAT I NEED TO COMPLETE AND WHERE AND WHEN MUST I COMPLETE THEM BY?

    A. Within a year of completing the training with the Climate Reality Leadership Corps, attendees are required to perform 10 “Acts of Leadership.” Acts of Leadership come in a variety of forms and can be completed anywhere in the world. Examples of Acts of Leadership include giving a presentation, writing a blog, writing a letter to the editor, organizing a climate action campaign, or meeting with local leaders. Climate Reality will offer support and resources, but Climate Reality Leaders will be responsible for completing actions and for logging them on Reality Hub, the online community specifically for trained Climate Reality Leaders.

Attendees will have the opportunity to complete several qualifying Acts of Leadership during the training.

    Q. MY [PARTNER, SPOUSE, FRIEND, CHILD, ETC.] WANTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TRAINING WITH ME. CAN WE SHARE AN ACCOUNT AND WORK THROUGH THE TRAINING TOGETHER?

    A. We love the enthusiasm and interest! However, we ask that each person request to join the training individually as each account is configured and the attendee experience designed for a single participant. Moreover, only those who are officially registered as attendees and complete the required training components will be considered trained Climate Reality Leaders. If attendees share their login information, it may result in their removal from the platform and the training. Therefore, if attendees have a friend or family member who wants to work through the training together, encourage that person to submit their own request to join the training.

    ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

    Q. HOW DOES THE CLIMATE REALITY PROJECT ACCOUNT FOR EVENT-RELATED EMISSIONS?

    A. Once energy conservation and emission reduction strategies are exhausted, any remaining emissions are tracked and measured. We compensate for the total carbon footprint of the event via verifiable carbon offset projects.
