Statement from Ken Berlin, President and CEO of The Climate Reality Project, on the Clean Economy Jobs & Innovation Act

“Climate Reality is encouraged by the House of Representatives’ vote to pass the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act, which aims to cut carbon emissions within the energy sector and helps pave the way forward for the clean energy economy. The bill’s provisions for a Clean Energy Accelerator, robust environmental justice action, and renewable energy development are critically important aspects of effective climate policy, and we thank the legislators who have pushed for climate legislation to be considered this session. 

“However, while we commend the House for taking up this bill, we urge our legislators to do more to meet this make-or-break moment. With wildfires engulfing the Western half of the country, we need more ambitious and immediate action to accelerate a just transition to a clean energy economy. We cannot waste time and money trying to clean up fossil fuels. We must be singularly focused on enabling an equitable COVID-19 recovery that supports clean energy jobs, stimulates economic growth, and mitigates against the climate catastrophe knocking on our doorsteps. Time is running out.”
