Dr. Filippo Giorgi

Filippo Giorgi received a PhD in 1982 from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. He then worked as a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, from 1983 to 1998, when he moved to the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, where he was the head of the Earth System Physics section. Giorgi is an international expert in climate modeling and climate change research. He authored over 420 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is one of the most highly cited scientists in the geosciences. He contributed to the first five reports of the IPCC and in 2018 was awarded the EGU Alexander von Humboldt medal.
