The author of Massachusetts' landmark Global Warming Solutions Act is a longtime leader in the fight for climate solutions. Some legislators serve their constituents. Some transform the direction of their state. That's exactly what Massachusetts Senator Marc Pacheco had done. After being elected first to the state House of Representatives in 1988, Senator Pacheco would be elected to the Senate in 1992 and has gone on to become the body's dean and longest continuously-serving member. In this role, Senator Pacheco was chosen to attend one of the very first trainings with Vice President Gore in 2007. Drawing on this experience, he began, authored, and ultimately secured passage of the landmark Global Warming Solutions Act in 2008, which made Massachusetts one of the first states in the nation to adopt a comprehensive climate plan for regulating and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In the years since, Senator Pacheco has only continued to build on this achievement, founding, chairing, and continuing to serve on the Standing Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change and championing a wide-range of climate and clean energy measures to eliminate fracking, support wind energy development, create green financing, and more.
