Betsy Southerland
Former Director of the Office of Science and Technology, EPA’s Office of Water; Member, Environmental Protection Network
(She/her) Dr. Betsy Southerland received a PhD in environmental science and engineering from Virginia Tech in 1982. She worked as a senior scientist and manager in the Water and Superfund programs at the USEPA for 33 years before retiring in 2017 as the director of the Office of Science and Technology in the Office of Water. She was awarded the President's Distinguished Executive rank for her career accomplishments at EPA. Since her retirement, she has been an active member of the Environmental Protection Network, testifying before Congress on environmental issues and providing technical assistance to communities.
