What does the Climate Justice for All Grants Program offer?
We offer grants up to $20,000 for the development and implementation of project-based solutions that address environmental injustices in the US or Puerto Rico. Selected organizations also receive unique opportunities to engage with fellow grantees in peer-learning sessions, capacity-building workshops, and opportunities for message amplification.
Who can apply?
We encourage applications from 501(c)(3) non-exempt organizations primarily led by and serving frontline communities in the US and Puerto Rico. Organizations that fall under these guidelines may include but are not limited to: environmental or climate justice organizations, grassroots groups, faith groups, youth-led climate organizations and HBCU campus organizations.
My organization does not have an IRS 501(c)(3) Determination Letter? Can I still apply?
Yes, it may be possible for you to apply as long as your organization has a fiscal sponsor with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and actively registered to do business.
What is a frontline community?
Frontline communities are those that experience the impacts of climate change first and worst. Communities of color, low-income communities, and people living in places impacted by environmental disaster and extractive industry have disproportionally endured the physical, economic, and mental burdens of climate change.
My organization is based internationally. Can I still apply?
Unfortunately, we do not accept international applicants. At this time, we only offer grants to organizations and grassroots groups in the US and Puerto Rico.
How much time do grantees have to implement a proposed project?
Grantees will have about nine months to implement their initiatives. The grant period begins in July, 2023 and ends in March, 2024.
When does the application open?
The grant application is currently open. Please make sure you submit your application here before May 12, 2023 at 6 PM (ET).
What type of projects do you support?
Our grants program only supports climate justice initiatives that pursue one or more of the objectives outlined in the request for proposals.
Does Climate Reality support general operating proposals?
No. Our grants program only supports project proposals that aim to achieve specific goals or objectives within the established grant period. Project proposals should outline a timeline and a budget that are tied to their project
Can I submit a joint application with a partner organization?
Unfortunately, we will not accept joint applications for this grant cycle. However, in some cases, grant recipients will be allowed to regrant part of the funds to support the work of a partner group – as long as their involvement increases the grantee’s chances to meet the goals and objectives submitted in their project proposal.
How are grantees selected?
Grantees are selected by our Climate Reality Grants Review Committee following a thorough and comprehensive review process. We review proposals in accordance to the evaluation criteria described in the request for proposals.
What happens when an organization is selected for grant?
Selected organizations will be notified of their acceptance via email on or before June 30, 2023. To accept the award, organizations will be invited to sign a grants agreement and submit a one-minute video highlighting key aspects of their climate justice initiative for Climate Reality social media.
Is the funding restricted?
We offer our grantees the liberty to use the grant funds as they see fit as long as the money is used to meet the objectives and milestones of the initiative. Organizations will need to provide a detailed explanation on how the funds will be used.
Can organizations apply more than once?
Yes. An organization may apply more than once granted that the project submitted has different goals and objectives than the initial submission.
Can former CJA grantees apply for a grant?
CJA grant recipients that have received funding in one round are eligible to apply for a second round of funding. However, Climate Reality will only allocate up to 20% of this year’s funds to support past CJA grantees.
Can I meet with anyone from CRP before applying?
Yes. We will offer office hours every Thursday from 4:00pm to 4:45pm ET until the application closes. You may contact us at [email protected] to notify us of your interest to attend.
