General Overview:
The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit organization founded by former US Vice President Al Gore, is dedicated to leading a global movement demanding immediate action on the climate crisis by using cutting-edge communications and grassroots strategies to educate the public about the urgency and solvability of the climate crisis and to activate the public to support actions that address the climate crisis.
Position Overview:
The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for creating daily social media content, growing its base of supporters, contributing to the organizational inbound & outbound marketing efforts, and finding innovative ways to increase Climate Reality’s brand visibility on social media. A love of writing and content creation is important with an ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format. This role manages our social calendars, drafts posts, and helps with quality control for all social content. This position is also responsible for helping measure and achieve campaign objectives and key results.
Our Washington, DC office is presently closed due to the COVID-19 health emergency. Therefore, we will accept remote applicants who work/reside in the following states:
CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NC, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX and VA.
Successful applicants must be at least 18 years of age and will be asked to show proof that they can legally work in the United States.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following.

Implementing the organization’s social media strategy: Assist in managing a cross-channel editorial calendar. Day-to-day activities to include ideation, writing, and posting organic and paid messages to social media, private social networks, and other channels.

Helping to identify key influencers, celebrities, and partners: Brainstorm and execute innovative ways to leverage supporters, partners, and advocates on social media to expand influence, affinity, and authority of the organization’s brand.

Tracking strategic metrics: Analyze, review, and report on the effectiveness of campaigns to maximize results.

Researching new social media trends, tools, and benchmarks (and responding accordingly): Coordinate with stakeholders across the organization to build content calendars, to encourage the adoption of relevant social media techniques into the organization’s culture, and integrate social media into the organization's campaigns and services.

Monitoring social media properties for customer service and fan conversation opportunities: Initiate conversations and engage in online dialogue, as well as watching social networks for violations of posting terms and community standards, and removing posts as required.

Researching and writing engaging long and short-form content for the web: Research, write and edit original SEO-ready content for the organization’s websites, blogs, online communication, and content assets (e-books, landing pages, etc.) as needed.

Ability to multi-task and follow up on assignments, deliverables and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

Minimum of 1-2 years of documented social media experience crafting accurate and engaging content across multiple networks.

Deep understanding of how to drive engagement and conversion with all relevant social channels.

Understand the intersection of paid and organic in digital and what each brings to the table.

Flexible enough to manage shifting priorities in a growing organization, while maintaining continuity in current projects.

Likes to strategize and plan in collaboration with a team – but comfortable directing your own work.

Team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other departments when necessary.

Curiosity and a willingness to experiment and learn.

Strong ability to build and maintain relationships.

Direct experience using social media management tools (Sprout, Hootsuite, Meltwater, etc.)

Preferred knowledge of climate actions, policies, and more.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
