Washington, DC (March 15, 2022) —From June 11-13, The Climate Reality Project will host its 49th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Applications are now open for the three-day event, which will explore the impacts of the climate crisis in the Southwestern United States and educate trainees about solutions at hand today to enable a just transition to a clean energy future.

Led by Climate Reality’s founder and chairman, former US Vice President Al Gore, this training will connect climate activists across the Southwest and equip them with the knowledge, tools, and networks needed to build an inclusive and equitable movement for climate action. As part of the training, participants will also learn how to give an up-to-date version of the presentation made famous in the Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth

All participants are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend this event.

“I’m proud that our network and movement have continued their tremendous growth, despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Vice President Gore. “Just as scientists have provided us with solutions like vaccines to help manage COVID-19, so too have they provided us with the solutions we need to tackle the climate crisis. I am thrilled to once again be able to join with activists to work toward urgent climate action in the Southwest United States, where the devastating impacts of climate change are already clear.”

As the climate crisis has accelerated, record-breaking heat waves and endless droughts are setting the stage for devastating wildfires and other major disruptions, affecting communities across the Southwest. This crisis, driven by unchecked carbon pollution, has also disproportionately impacted frontline communities, including communities of color, Indigenous groups, and low-income families and neighborhoods, further deepening inequality and creating new dangers for those already experiencing systemic neglect and discrimination.

Fortunately, there is cause for hope. Individuals, activist groups, young people, businesses, Indigenous communities, and policymakers across the region are embracing climate solutions. A broad and deep coalition of concerned citizens are working together toward a just transition to halt rising temperatures, clean up our communities, and improve lives.

The Climate Reality Leadership Corps aims to provide climate activists in the region with the tools and knowledge needed to scale up climate solutions, particularly those that focus on climate justice and public health, building green communities, and making a just transition to clean energy.

At the training, participants will have the opportunity to connect and network with other climate activists around the country and join a global network of activists leading the charge for solutions to the most pressing crisis of our time. The training will be delivered in English with simultaneous Spanish interpretation offered during select sessions.

Upon completion of the training, participants will join Climate Reality’s global network of activists around the world, including business leaders, elected officials, entrepreneurs, concerned citizens, and students dedicated to bold, ambitious climate action.

The application for the Climate Reality Leadership Corps Las Vegas Training is now open to those over the age of 16 with an interest in climate activism at: https://www.climaterealityproject.org/apply/lasvegas

PLEASE NOTE: All attendees are required to be up to date in their vaccinations against COVID-19 prior to arriving at the training. Testing requirements will be announced closer to the training. Possible masking requirements will also be announced closer to the training date based on federal and local policies.
