Climate Reality Kicks Off 24 Hours of Reality: 24 Reasons for Hope
BOULDER, CO (September 16, 2014) Today, The Climate Reality Project’s fourth-annual 24 Hours of Reality broadcast, 24 Hours of Reality: 24 Reasons for Hope, will launch live from Brooklyn, New York September 16-17, beginning 12 PM EDT. Shifting the conversation on climate change from futility and hopelessness to one of innovative solutions and optimism, former U.S. Vice President and Climate Reality Chairman and Founder Al Gore will introduce a new reason to be hopeful about solving climate change every hour.
This year’s broadcast kicks off with an interview featuring actor and green activist Mark Ruffalo. Mark will discuss one reason he is hopeful about climate change: clean energy is no longer just a dream for the future. Instead it has become a viable, accessible and affordable option around the world. Al Gore will also share the latest breakthroughs in renewable technology in the first hour, setting the stage for a day-long exploration of existing solutions, the people and businesses leading the way, the benefits of climate action, and the leaders and governments taking bold steps to stop climate change.
Each hour thereafter will feature reports with activists, town hall-style discussions with experts like Chris Hayes and Dan Esty, and one-on-one interviews with celebrities like Maggie Grace and Bradley Whitford, man-on-the-street interludes with Ian Somerhalder, and artistic performances covering everything from the benefits we are already seeing to the leaders in the global arena. “Carbon pollution is already having a profound impact on our climate, but the good news is that we have all the tools we need to overcome this challenge,” said Al Gore. “It’s time our leaders stop asking ‘What do we do?’ and instead ask ‘How can we accelerate the shift to a sustainable future powered by cheap, clean renewable energy, with sustainable agriculture and forestry.’ This year’s 24 Hours of Reality will signal a transition in the global conversation on climate change where we highlight the solutions at hand and empower individuals to take simple actions to aid this global fight.”
