First Lady of New Jersey Tammy Murphy Joins Climate Reality Board of Directors
Washington, DC (May 5, 2023) – Today, The Climate Reality Project, founded by former Vice President Al Gore, announced that First Lady of New Jersey Tammy Murphy has been appointed as the newest member of the organization’s Board of Directors.
As a member of the board, Murphy will help lead Climate Reality’s ongoing work to build a diverse and inclusive movement for climate action and advance just, clean energy solutions to the climate crisis.
“We’re thrilled to welcome my dear friend Tammy Murphy to The Climate Reality Project’s Board of Directors,” said Vice President Gore. “As first lady of New Jersey, Tammy has been a powerful champion for climate action—including spearheading a first-of-its-kind climate education standard for K-12 students. I look forward to working with her to continue to grow The Climate Reality Project and lead a just transition to clean energy across the globe.”
Serving as first lady of New Jersey since 2018, Murphy has worked with non-profits, a think tank, and other organizations focused on the environment, education, health care, youth and family services, the arts, and trans-Atlantic relations.
Under Murphy’s leadership, New Jersey became the first state in the nation to incorporate climate change education in its K-12 learning standards, making the state a leader in educating the next generation of climate literate professionals. She also serves as honorary chair of the New Jersey Council on the Green Economy, which is tasked with developing a blueprint for expanding the green economy and building a diverse workforce to support the Murphy Administration’s clean energy and climate goals.
She currently serves as secretary and charter member of the Climate Reality Action Fund.
“It is an honor to serve as a member of the Climate Reality Board of Directors alongside Vice President Gore, who first inspired me to engage in the fight against the climate crisis decades ago,” said Tammy Murphy. “Ensuring that we have a just transition to the future green economy and that we are educating the next generation of climate literate professionals has been an urgent priority for me as first lady of New Jersey. I look forward to working with my fellow board members to continue building a strong and inclusive climate movement.”
