New York, NY (Nov. 30, 2012) — The Climate Reality Project’s 24 Hours of Reality: The Dirty Weather Report officially set a new Ustream record for most channel views in a 24-hour period, with 16.8 million views from more than 14 million unique viewers worldwide. The live event, which took place from November 14-15 and circled the globe, connected millions of people with more than 100 experts around the world for an urgent discussion about the impacts of the climate crisis.

“In the wake of Hurricane Sandy and other examples of dirty weather taking place all over the world, the global interest in 24 Hours of Reality is proof positive that people recognize the imperative to act now on the climate crisis,” said Maggie L. Fox, President and CEO of The Climate Reality Project. “Through our partnership with Ustream, this year’s 24 Hours of Reality highlighted the costs of further inaction and showcased the solutions and tools available now.”

“We’re proud to be working with Climate Reality for the second year in row, breaking audience records for live online broadcasts,” said Brad Hunstable, CEO Ustream. “Only Ustream is able to instantly scale its network to bring a global community together and educate the world about this pressing environmental concern.“

Led by The Climate Reality Project's Founder and Chairman, former Vice President Al Gore, the event brought together voices from around the world including scientists, business leaders, national security experts, cultural and religious leaders, youth groups, and activists. Together, they spoke about climate change impacts and solutions across all 24 time zones. In addition to the online views, the event also generated an estimated 146 million impressions on Twitter during the 24-hour period, and #dirtyweather was a trending topic on November 15.

The first annual 24 Hours of Reality live broadcast via Ustream in 2011 received more than 8 million online views, 90 million Twitter impressions, and earned a Cannes Silver Lion at the 59th International Festival of Creativity. This year, 24 Hours of Reality again circled the globe, showcasing across 24 time zones how Dirty Energy pollution from coal, oil, and gas leads to Dirty Weather like extreme storms, floods, heat waves, and severe drought.
