(Washington, DC) — The following is a statement from The Climate Reality Project President and CEO Kenneth Berlin on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s announcement of a national emissions trading program:

"This has been a historic week for climate as on the heels of the Pope’s plea to Congress, the world’s two largest carbon emitters announced an unprecedented degree of cooperation on climate action and China set forward a nationwide emissions trading program and new commitments towards climate finance.

"Without question, we are on the road to a strong emissions reduction agreement in Paris – which will secure a prosperous future that is powered by clean, affordable energy. It is up to all of us to make sure the rest of the world’s leaders follow this example."
