Earlier this week, former Climate Reality board member and former New York Congressman Sherwood “Sherry” Boehlert passed away at the age of 84. During his time in Congress, Representative Boehlert served as the chair of the House Science Committee and is remembered as a strong, fearless advocate for policies to curb air pollution and climate change. His work was critical to the passage of the Clean Air Act amendments of 1990, which addressed major public health and environmental threats including urban air pollution, auto emissions, acid rain, and ozone depletion. Congressman Boehlert was a valued voice on the Climate Reality board of directors for over a decade and was a steadfast supporter of our work to engage the public on solutions to the climate crisis. Below is a statement from Climate Reality's founder and chairman, former US Vice President Al Gore.

“Sherry Boehlert was a steadfast climate champion, a valued Climate Reality board member, and a true friend. I am heartbroken at his loss, but am forever grateful for the legacy that he leaves behind. He demonstrated, with great dedication and passion, his commitment to the people he served and to his country. I was honored to work alongside him for decades as he advocated for environmental protection and strove to show that climate action is not a political issue; it is a moral issue. My heart goes out to his beloved wife Marianne, his children, and all those who are mourning his loss."
