Today, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa held an event to officially announce that Los Angeles will end its reliance on dirty coal-fired electricity by 2025. Maggie L. Fox, President and CEO of The Climate Reality Project, issued the following statement:
“Mayor Villaraigosa's bold announcement proves that we can begin solving the climate crisis in our own hometowns, with leaders who have the will to take on the challenge. California and the Western United States are experiencing some of the most severe climate change impacts in the form of drought, water shortages, and wildfires — and the extraordinary costs associated with each. Mayor Villaraigosa understands that we are already paying the price of carbon pollution, and this cost is simply too high. Ending our reliance on dirty energy and taking steps to solve the climate crisis by putting a price on carbon pollution and investing in clean, renewable resources is imperative for the health and economic well–being of California and the United States.”
