The European Commission’s green recovery proposal is proof that investing in a resilient and carbon-free future is crucial not only to solving the climate crisis, but also to building back from the economic devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic. With a few tweaks to this proposal to close loopholes on fossil fuel spending and continued prioritization of support for regional climate funding, the European Union can provide a path forward that should be a baseline to all countries and regions seeking a just transition away from fossil fuels and prosperous, equitable, safe future for all.
