Statement from Ken Berlin, President and CEO of The Climate Reality Project, on the Georgia Senate Elections

SHARE

“Climate Reality congratulates Senators-elect Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff on their respective victories in Georgia’s historic Senate race. The health of American democracy depends on Americans voting, and the inspiring voter turnout we’ve seen in this special election, driven largely by young people and communities of color, is a hopeful sign for our future. Climate Reality is happy to have played a part in registering new voters in Georgia over the past month.

“As the pandemic worsens and the climate crisis continues unchecked, we know the country faces enormous challenges in the days, weeks, and months ahead. With the conclusion of these runoff elections, our elected leaders must now work together to find solutions. The 117th Congress has an opportunity to advance climate legislation and support a green, equitable recovery that slashes greenhouse gas emissions, frees frontline communities from harmful pollution, creates millions of good green jobs, and accelerates a just transition to a clean energy economy. We urge Senators-elect Warnock and Ossoff to make the climate crisis a key priority in their new roles as duly elected representatives of the state of Georgia, and we look forward to working with them to ensure ambitious climate action is swiftly enshrined into law.”
