Statement From Ken Berlin, President And CEO of The Climate Reality Project, on Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s Nomination To Department Of Transportation
“The transportation sector accounts for more than a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions, the most of any sector within the U.S. economy. To solve the climate crisis, our federal leadership must pursue urgent and bold action to modernize our national infrastructure, support public transit, set and enforce strong fuel economy standards, and electrify transport systems to reduce emissions, bolster resilience, ensure equity, and create healthier, more livable communities for all people.
“Mayor Pete Buttigieg has voiced his strong support for climate action and further electrification of our economy, particularly within the transportation sector. He has advocated for greater deployment of electric vehicles and understands the importance of creating dense and livable cities. Climate Reality is encouraged by his nomination to serve as Secretary of Transportation, and if confirmed, we urge him to make climate action and climate justice a focus of the department’s work, particularly as it relates to expanding efficient, low-carbon, and equitable transportation to frontline communities.”
