Roberto Gualtieri

Roberto Gualtieri (Rome, 1966) earned a degree in literature and philosophy from La Sapienza University of Rome and a PhD in economic history. He became an associate professor of contemporary history, authoring works on political and economic history and European integration. In 2009, he joined the European Parliament, served on the Brexit negotiating team, and chaired the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. He became Minister of Economy and Finance in September 2019 and during his term he focused on mitigating Covid-19's impact, leading the European negotiations for the Next Generation EU Program. Elected mayor of Rome in October 2021 for a five-year term, Roberto is driven by his passion for the city, aiming to enhance its European and international stature.
