As the largest fossil fuel company in Italy and second largest in the European Union, Eni is already one of the world’s top greenhouse gas emitters. But Eni isn’t stopping there — it plans to expand with new operations in 16 countries and develop the equivalent of an additional 3 billion barrels of oil equivalent in the coming years.
The science is clear: The world can’t afford any new fossil fuel infrastructure and hope to hold warming to 1.5 degrees. Much less add the equivalent of hundreds of millions of barrels of oil.
We deserve better. With nearly a third of Eni owned by the Italian government, the Italian people have a direct stake in the actions of this company. And with a history of energy innovation and abundant wind and sun resources, Italy has everything it needs to face the climate challenge head on and build a clean energy future right at home.
We can’t afford business as usual. Tell Eni to stop its destructive fossil fuel expansion and invest in a clean energy future for Italy and Europe.
